Neck Pain

Stiffness, sharp pain, and limited motion that can linger long after the crash.

What is neck pain?

Post-accident neck pain is often more than simple muscle soreness. The cervical spine is a stack of seven small vertebrae supporting the weight of your head, and even a low-speed impact can irritate the facet joints, discs, and surrounding soft tissue.

When those joints lose their normal motion, the muscles around them tighten as a protective response. That muscle guarding is what creates the deep, persistent ache and the feeling that you cannot fully turn your head.

Untreated, this pattern can settle into chronic neck pain, recurring tension headaches, and reduced range of motion that affects driving, working, and sleep.

Common symptoms

  • Sharp pain with specific movements like checking a blind spot
  • Dull, constant ache at the base of the neck
  • Stiffness that is worst in the morning
  • Muscle spasms in the upper trapezius
  • Pain that radiates into the shoulder blade
  • Reduced range of motion when looking up or side to side
  • Headaches that build through the day

How we treat it

We pinpoint the specific joints and segments that are restricted using motion palpation and a focused exam, rather than treating the whole neck generically.

Gentle cervical mobilization and chiropractic adjustments restore normal joint glide, which immediately reduces the muscle guarding that drives the pain.

Soft-tissue work releases the trigger points and tight bands in the trapezius, levator scapulae, and suboccipital muscles.

Corrective exercises rebuild deep neck flexor strength and proper posture so the relief lasts long after care is complete.

When to seek care

Neck pain that you ignore tends to become neck pain that you live with. If your symptoms started after an accident, getting in within the first few weeks makes recovery faster, shorter, and more complete.

Remember that pain from an auto accident is often delayed by 24 to 72 hours. Adrenaline can mask the injury at the scene, so even mild symptoms after a collision are worth a same-day evaluation.
